Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2010

WHO: Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli
WHAT: Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2010
WHEN: January 27, 2010
WEAR: Valentino Haute Couture
WHY: Upon first viewing the show, I had to double check to make sure I was in fact looking at a Valentino collection. "Out with the old, in with the new" seems to be the message at the house. I'm posting this collection, as I do see some looks that I truly like, however, it is hard to appreciate them under the Valentino name. Ladies who lunch (or spend their days lounging on a yacht) are out and party girls with a taste for the nightlife are in. Strip away the hair/makeup/hairpieces (which I can definitely see in an editorial btw) and there are some nice pieces. Below are my fave looks.

Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Spring 2010

WHO: Jean Paul Gaultier
WHAT: Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture
WHEN: January 27, 2010
WEAR: JPG Haute Couture
WHY: Nevermind that this man can take an inspiration and really make it his own, there are quite a few amazing looks in this collection. I love the tribal feel along with the Mexican influence in here, but what stands out to me the most is the construction. The details are stunning. I'm looking forward to seeing detail shots from the show, as they will reveal much more than the shots I have seen thus far. The casting of girls is superb as well. It is great to see a lineup of several ethnicities being represented on a runway, especially during the couture. My fave looks below.

Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2010

WHO: Riccardo Tisci
WHAT: Givenchy Haute Couture
WHEN: January 26, 2010
WEAR: Givenchy Haute Couture
WHY: The colors (purple, green, blue), the textures (suede, beading, and feathers galore) combined with a bit of romance and glam rock pantsuits made my day. On a side-note, the gown on Natalia needs a moment on the red carpet. My fave looks below.

Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2010

WHO: Karl Lagerfeld
WHAT: Chanel Haute Couture
WHEN: January 26, 2010
WEAR: Chanel Haute Couture
WHY: Nary a black dress in sight on the catwalk was a first in quite some time at the house of Chanel, and in its place was a cavalcade of looks in blush, silver, white, and yellow among other similar tones. I always admire the balance of youth and heritage in the Chanel collections, and this one was no exception. There are plenty of chic dresses for the younger set, but also a suit (with shorts no less) in lime and yellow for a more traditional customer. Despite the heavy use of metallics in this collection, Lagerfeld didn't push this collection in the direction of the future. It all feels very now, as opposed to what couture customers may be wearing in say, 2020. Below are my fave looks.

Armani Privé Spring 2010

WHO: Giorgio Armani
WHAT: Armani Privé Spring 2010
WHEN: January 25, 2010
WEAR: Armani Privé
WHY: Using the moon as a starting point, Mr. Armani sent out a stunning collection with a lot of red carpet options. I like that some of the pieces look almost like sculptures and the tailoring is impeccable. The collection is just so soft and dreamy; but without being to frou frou. The fabrics used, which look futuristic, yet are wearable adds to the allure. It is a modern and rather refreshing collection. Below are my fave looks.
